Privacy Policy

Chute is a menu-bar app for macOS that helps you capture a thought once and send it to the right place — Apple Reminders, Notes, and Calendar on your Mac, and connected services such as Slack, Discord, Notion, and Google. This policy explains what data Chute handles and how.

The short version: Chute is local-first. Your captures live on your own Mac. Chute only sends a capture outward when you route it to a service you have connected — and only to that service. We don't sell your data, and we don't run advertising or profiling on it.

What Chute stores on your device

Your captures, lists, tags, settings, and the access tokens for services you connect are stored locally on your Mac (in the app's application-support folder). This data stays on your device. Removing the app removes it.

Connecting Google (Calendar & Tasks)

If you choose to connect Google, Chute requests permission to your Google Calendar and Google Tasks so it can create and sync the events and tasks you capture. Specifically:

Google Calendar — to create calendar events from captures that look like appointments, and to keep them in sync.
Google Tasks — to create tasks from captures that look like to-dos.

Chute uses this access only to carry out the actions you initiate. It does not read, collect, or store your calendar or task history beyond what is needed to create and sync the items you capture. The sign-in itself is brokered by our connection service (klyph-auth.onrender.com), which facilitates the OAuth handshake and returns the access token to your copy of Chute; the token is then stored on your device.

Limited Use. Chute's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We do not use Google user data for advertising, and we do not sell it or share it with third parties except to provide the feature you asked for.

Other connected services

Slack, Discord, and Notion work the same way: Chute stores the credential you authorize on your device and uses it only to deliver captures you route to that service. Apple Reminders, Notes, and Calendar are handled entirely on your Mac through macOS and need no account or token.

What we don't do

We don't sell or rent your data to anyone.
We don't use your captures or connected-account data for advertising or profiling.
We don't send your captures anywhere except the services you explicitly connect and route to.

Updates

Chute checks for new versions so it can update itself. This check contacts our software release host and does not include your captures or personal content.

Revoking access & deleting data

Disconnect any service from Chute's Settings at any time.
Revoke Chute's access to your Google account at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
Deleting the app removes the captures and tokens stored on your device.
